Abstract

The Working Time covers several Ideas and Interests: the workers’ interest in a progressive reduction, although with some flexibility as well; the Companies’ interest in a flexible Management, able to adapt to the changing demands in the Production System, and the social interest in achieveing a system able to create wealth and guarantee fair working conditions. The Labour Law has been dealing with all these topics and, although in the first stages it focused mainly in the establishment of a maximun of working hours together with the Worker’s right to rest, lately, it has been paying more attention to values such as diversity, flexibility and adjustment (both single and collective) of the working hours. UE regulations are a good example of it.
