Abstract

Th is work considers the profound contradiction between what we say about animals and how we actually treat them. Th is ethical contradiction arises from giving animals the status of property, i.e. considering them to be just objects. To take seriously, or into consideration, animals’ well-being has moral consequences. It means acknowledging that we have direct moral obligations to them and demands that we confer them the right not to be treated as property.
