Th is article is a personal account, not a scientifi c one. I will try to delimit the perspective I have taken in research in this fi eld for the last ten year, and why. I will divide this work into three concentric circles. In the fi rst two, I will briefl y introduce the Artifi cial Intelligence (AI) and the Artifi cial Intelligence and Law (AI & L) fi elds. In the third, I will introduce the Semantic Web (SW). In the notes at the end, the reader will fi nd the critical support as it does not appear in the text. Th erefore, this paper allows three levels of reading: the plain text, further explanation in the notes, and an extensive bibliography (if the reader wants to go to original sources). She can access this way to the present state of the art in AI & Law.
