THE DEBATE ON HUMAN ENHANCEMENT AND HUMAN DIGNITY

A CRITIC TO NICK BOSTROM

Abstract

Since the beginning of the present century the debate about the ethical aspects of using biotechnology for human enhancement has constantly increased. In the fi rst part of the article it is presented the concept of human enhancement and the ethical questions that come with it. In the second part it is consider the ethical position of Nick Bostrom on the topic, one of the most acknowledged defenders of this possibility. Th e last part is devoted to discuss his arguments in favour of human enhancement. Th is work is intended to off er the spanish reader an approach to one of the most hot debates of the moment about a matter that directly aff ects the concepts of human being and society, and the future of humanity.
